Milan, a Sunday evening that feels very much like a Saturday because the day after is a holiday, a Sunday evening that feels very much like rain, a Sunday evening that feels very much like curiosity. Curiosity that pushed me and some of my friends to leave home to see these two lovely ladies who looked like they just stepped off a 1950s PanAm plane or thereabouts. Curiosity that made me want to see for the first time, besides their legs (used for promotional photos), also the face of Kate and Sarah, as they seem to be named.
And here we are at the concert, held at the Rolling Stone (a former temple of important concerts now supplanted by other Milanese venues). The event, which took place within the framework of the 21st Depechemodeparty, managed to draw quite a crowd, with an average age around 30, although there were some youngsters. The first group to perform was Babylonia, a Milanese technopop group presenting their new album.
Around 11:30 PM if I remember correctly comes the moment everyone is waiting for, with a slow and stealthy pace, dressed as 1950s hostesses complete with airline company brooch, the two Clients enter, (I recall they are produced by Andy Fletcher of Depeche Mode) on stage there are only three microphones, a Novation K (small synth), and the DJ set, which in this case (unfortunately) is not Andy Fletcher as everyone would like, but rather a big hefty guy who replaces him.
The concert begins, the volume is loud but it's clear enough, the singer's voice is not bad and closely resembles that of the CDs, even though the dubbing of the two voices doesn't go very well, she nonetheless holds the stage with grimaces and glances, occasionally flanking the keyboardist in movements and poses somewhat lesbo. The repertoire is quite complete, ranging from songs from the first mixed with those from the latest album, which are then the ones most sung by the audience, from "Pornography" to "Price Of Love", from "Client" to "Down To The Underground", and on and on keeping the audience dancing for about an hour.
In conclusion, I would say it was a very interesting live performance both for the originality that composed it and for the impeccability of the performance, it's not every day that you see two women and a DJ on stage who manage to keep the scene alive without disruptions and dead points, maybe it was the type of music proposed that helped them, the fact is it was a great concert where we had a lot of fun. The cherry on the cake was meeting them outside the Rolling, with lots of thanks, licks, and autographs, which unfortunately felt like a hoax because they didn't even put their name on them.
