Ciro Guerra (born 1981) is a Colombian film director and screenwriter known for films such as Embrace of the Serpent (2015), Birds of Passage (2018), and Waiting For The Barbarians (2019).

Embrace of the Serpent was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (for the 2016 ceremony). Birds of Passage was co-directed with Cristina Gallego. Waiting For The Barbarians (directed by Guerra) is an adaptation of the J.M. Coetzee novel and stars Mark Rylance, Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson.

DeBaser hosts a single, sharply critical review of Ciro Guerra's Waiting For The Barbarians, which judges the adaptation as narratively weak and simplificative of J.M. Coetzee's novel. The review criticizes directorial choices, pacing, and the use of star casting. It praises Mark Rylance's lead performance but finds the film overall disappointing.

For:Viewers interested in literary adaptations, arthouse and political cinema, and critical film analysis.

Despite all efforts to emphasize the importance of the topics discussed, the film fails spectacularly to convey the depth of the original work.
