THE REVIEW

2000

The wonderland exists only in your head.

The wonderland is an acid trip gone wrong.

The wonderland is a nightmare.

And Chris Vrenna knows something about nightmares (NIN/Manson), he has already worked in the video game field (Quake/Quake2) and will continue to do so after this experience (Quake 4/Doom3). Thus, through layers of keyboards and melancholic music boxes, with noise-making expedients such as scissors cutting or clock ticking, combining Efamann-style choirs with furious strings, the ex-Nine Inch Nails member, colors the universe that McGee (the game's author) has psychiatrically designed. Noisiness, industrial, ambient, weave an atmosphere halfway between dream and madness, between sweetness and melancholy; a cathedral of anguish that hardly leaves anyone indifferent. A sick universe where Alice is a suicidal, the white rabbit a biomechanical experiment, the Cheshire cat a tattooed zombie.

Delicious madness and paranoia blend into an inevitable yet unyielding spiral of perdition.

The white rabbit runs, follow him, Alice, follow him.
