Three years after the much-discussed Louden Up Now, the eight Californian guys bring back their dance-funk formula with these 10 tracks that form the new Myth Takes. The result is more or less similar to the previous one, perhaps slightly superior, if only because they’ve added some diversions throughout the party.
Starting from the end, with "Infinifold," I am taken aback by the wave-soul vein that animates the piece, but as we know, it's very trendy to close albums with different tracks (without using the grand word experimental, which doesn't quite fit here) from all the material that makes it up. The rest, indeed, is !!! (or chk chk chk who cares) original style, meaning driving rhythms that make even corpses move their butts. However, not all the tracks hold up as you listen more, due to a certain repetitiveness that ends up boring even the most spaced-out DJ (listen to "Must Be The Moon," "A New Name," "Yadnus," "All My Heroes Are Weirdos").
The crown jewel is undoubtedly the single (a smart choice) "Heart of Hearts," the track I always want to dance to right now, where a female voice stands out, which is very trendy, and an intermission with psych hues that lasts just long enough for a drink. References? Few. Or at least not too flashy. If I had to push it, I might say Depeche or Red Hot, hoping not to offend anyone, otherwise let's say Rapture, because we're talking about throwaway phenomena here.
