Chic is an American band formed in 1976 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards, known for pioneering a sophisticated disco/funk sound marked by distinctive rhythm guitar and basslines. They wrote and produced hits for other artists and enjoyed major commercial success in the late 1970s.

Founders: Nile Rodgers (guitar) and Bernard Edwards (bass). Regular drummer: Tony Thompson. Chic produced and arranged records for other artists, notably Diana Ross' 1980 album 'Diana' (including the track "I'm Coming Out"). Bernard Edwards died in 1996; Nile Rodgers has continued performing and producing under the Chic name.

Three DeBaser reviews praise Chic's musicianship, arrangements and pioneering disco/funk sound. Reviewers highlight Nile Rodgers' rhythmic guitar, Bernard Edwards' bass lines (especially "Good Times") and Tony Thompson's drums. Risqué and various greatest-hits compilations are recommended. Overall the coverage is celebratory while noting disco's cultural dismissal.

For:Fans of disco, funk and R&B; listeners who value musicianship, groove and classic late-1970s dance production.

Between electronics and gliding violins, sighs, and various musical games, there is no doubt that Chic represents the worthy and serious side of disco music.
