Chet Baker was a jazz musician with serious chops, a drug addict as well as a true lunatic: let's say he loved to torture his session mates, forcing them to guess from the few notes emitted from his trumpet the piece he was playing, the key, and the notes to move on.
The idea for this album came about when two Italian record producers, the Gurtler brothers, learned that good old Chet would be arriving soon in the beautiful country and proposed a series of recordings to him. He agreed: the producers quickly organized a crew of the best Italian session men around, people who, judging by this album, have little to envy from their overseas colleagues. The record features covers of American standards like "Cheryl Blues," the Miles-influenced "Tune Up," and the beautiful "My Old Flame," and I'm sure that, like me, you will listen to this album over and over again, as it's full of classy touches and details that will emerge time after time.
A great album, though not revolutionary, but let it be clear that Baker didn't revolutionize anything: he just played the trumpet incredibly well, with his own melancholic and unmistakable mood, a symptom of a creative and tormented personality like few others. Excuse me if it's not much.

06 Look For The Silver Lining (04:35)
Look for the silver lining
Whenever a cloud appears in the blue.
Remember somewhere the sun is shining,
And so the right thing to do,
Is make it shine for you.
A heart, full of joy and gladness,
Will always banish sadness and strife.
So always look for the silver lining,
And try to find the sunny side of life.
