Chet Baker (Chesney Henry Baker Jr., 1929–1988) was an American jazz trumpeter and vocalist renowned for his lyrical cool-jazz style. Enrico Pieranunzi (born 1949) is an Italian jazz pianist noted for sensitive accompaniment and melodic focus. The two recorded acclaimed duo and small-group sessions documented on the albums Soft Journey (recorded Dec 1979–Jan 1980) and The Heart Of The Ballad (recorded Feb 29, 1988).

Chet Baker was a central figure in cool jazz, recorded extensively as trumpeter and singer, struggled with heroin addiction, and died in Amsterdam in 1988. Enrico Pieranunzi is an acclaimed Italian jazz pianist and composer known for lyrical phrasing and collaborations with international jazz artists.
