Chester Burton "Chet" Atkins (June 20, 1924 – June 30, 2001) was an American guitarist and record producer, influential in country music and a key figure in the development of the 'Nashville sound'.

Credited with helping shape the Nashville sound; long career as a guitarist, record producer and executive at RCA Victor; collaborated with and influenced guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel; winner of multiple Grammy Awards.

A glowing review of the 1997 collaboration with Tommy Emmanuel, praising Chet Atkins's refined fingerpicking and measured, musical solos. The album is presented as accessible country-instrumental music rather than mere virtuosity. The review frames the record as a passing of the torch from Atkins to Emmanuel.
