The Profile

Cherry Five are an Italian progressive rock group tied to Rome’s underground scene. Their self-titled LP, recorded in 1974 and later issued by Cinevox, featured singer Tony Tartarini and drummer Carlo Bordini alongside three future Goblin members: Claudio Simonetti, Massimo Morante, and Fabio Pignatelli. In 2015, Tartarini and Bordini revived the name with new musicians for Il pozzo dei giganti on Black Widow, a Dante-inspired work with vintage keyboards.

Italian prog band from the Roman underground; early lineup included future Goblin members; self-titled LP released by Cinevox in the mid-1970s with English vocals and symphonic/Genesis–Yes influences; name revived in 2015 for Il pozzo dei giganti on Black Widow Records, thematically linked to the Divina Commedia and performed with vintage instrumentation (Hammond, Minimoog, Mellotron).

Cherry Five are a Roman-rooted Italian prog outfit, famed for a rare mid-’70s Cinevox LP featuring future Goblin members and English-sung symphonic chops. The record’s Yes/Genesis-leaning flair has been re-evaluated for its musicianship and dark, ‘gothic’ vibe. In 2015, the name returned with Il pozzo dei giganti on Black Widow, a Dante-inspired suite with vintage keyboards. Collectors and Italian prog devotees will find both albums warmly recommended.
