A welcome return for the Cheap Wine from the Marche region, who are back with their fifth CD titled "Moving", two years after the highly acclaimed "Crime Stories".
The opening is entrusted to a track, "I Can Fly Away", which musically reflects certain atmospheres typical of Crosby, Stills & Nash, while the mood begins to become more decided in "Move Along" with piercing electric guitars.
"Snakes" is an electric ballad, while "The Wheels Are On Fire" is a driven rock track that somewhat recalls the Dream Syndicate (in fact, they have the admiration and appreciation of Steve Wynn).
"City Lights" is another of those electric ballads that is recommended to listen to perhaps in a dimly lit room, then it returns to the American rock'n'roll of "Haze All Down The Line" (it's also a good idea to alternate soft pieces with "nasty" tracks).
Another ballad opens with a guitar and a soft harmonica ("Loom And Vanish"), while "I Got Gasolina" is another decided and gritty rock.
Then there's the homage to the great Bob Dylan with an intense "One More Cup Of Coffee", a song that originally was part of the album "Desire" from 1975.
Next comes a piece that somehow recalls Jason & the Scorchers, "Shakin' The Cage" with that sustained rhythm and prominently featured electric guitars and harmonica.
The last track of the album is a long ballad titled "Fade Out", which begins softly and then heats up as the piece progresses.
The lyrics of "Moving" revolve around the theme of travel, in an attempt to capture some expressions of it, without caring to define the destination. Travel as rebellion, a declaration of independence. Departure as a point of rupture. Travel as an escape, but not as a retreat. The lyrics also draw inspiration from Jack Kerouac's "On the road" and Bruce Chatwin's "Anatomy of Restlessness".
The Cheap Wine produced this record between January and June 2004 at the Castrista studio in Marzocca (AN), where they have always recorded.
Four very talented musicians who go by the names of:
MARCO DIAMANTINI (rhythm guitar, harmonica, and vocals)
MICHELE "ROCCIA" DIAMANTINI (lead guitar, slide guitar, and backing vocals)
ALESSANDRO “FRUSCIO” GRAZIOLI (bass)
FRANCESCO "ZANO" ZANOTTI (drums)
Along with various guests:
ALESSANDRO CASTRIOTA (piano, Hammond organ, and backing vocals)
ROBERTO COGLIANO (percussions)
CLAUDIO DAMIANI (backing vocals)
MARTA GRAZIANI (backing vocals).
The album's lyrics are penned by Marco Diamantini, while seven of the music pieces are by Michele (three are by Marco).
This is music that absolutely needs to be shared, listen to it.
