Charles Aznavour is a French singer-songwriter of Armenian origins known worldwide, also because he sings in five languages (French, English, Italian, Armenian, Russian). He was also decorated with the Legion of Honor.
In the album, the first song is "L'istrione", a true anthem to the profession of the playwright: "with my well-made-up face, with the mask I have, I am both emphatic and discreet, verses and prose I will tell you... ". Then the album consists of love songs: "Buon anniversario", "Del mio amare te", "Buon anniversario". The song "Non hai più", instead, encompasses all the nostalgia of youth and beauty that over time fades away: "hold women as you want but you have to pay for their virtue in cash."
Then there is the protest song about sycophancy: "Vecchio mio Giuda mio": "they accept, if necessary, even a kick in the ass, bending forward, until they touch the ground." but the true flagship of the entire album is the poignant "Ed io tra di voi" for which it is truly worth transcribing the entire lyrics:
"He watches you secretly
you are nervous next to me.
He caresses your gaze
you give in to his charm.
And I, between the two of you
if I never speak
I've already seen everything.
And I, between the two of you
I understand that by now
the end of everything is here.
He is spying
what you do
you encourage him because you know.
He knows how to tempt you with skill
you are annoyed that I am here.
And I, between the two of you
if I never speak
I observe your connection.
And I, between the two of you
I hide this way
the anguish I feel inside.
He secretly
smiles at you,
you speak loudly,
who knows why
he courts you
despite me,
you laugh too much,
you've already chosen.
And I, between the two of you
if I never speak
my heart swells with tears.
And I, between the two of you
alone I will see
the pain growing within me.
Oh, no! It's nothing,
maybe a bit of fatigue
What are you thinking?
Quite the opposite!
It was a magnificent evening, yes
a magnificent evening!
a magnificent evening!"
