LA RECENSIONE

Cesare Cremonini is one of the most fascinating cases in Italian music. He knows how to sing, interpret, play, and write. "La ragazza del futuro," his seventh studio album (eighth, counting "Squerez" with Lunapop), confirms his talent. Ten songs plus four instrumentals, demonstrating a piano-driven compositional vein, make up an album that is refined, enjoyable, and never falls into the banal or trashy, much like almost the entirety of the Author's career. The best tracks are the title track and "Colibrì," released not coincidentally as singles, but the album contains other precious gems like "Moonwalk" (where the step made famous by Michael Jackson is just a pretext to talk about a girl, perhaps of the future) and "Stand up comedy" (the best lyrics according to this writer, with a return to the theme of "Il pagliaccio"). They are beautiful, but with slightly less than the aforementioned ones, "La fine del mondo" and "Chimica" (where love is discussed as a chemical attraction), while three episodes are not bad, namely "La camicia," "Jeky," and "Psyco," especially the latter. But it is with the concluding "Chiamala felicità" that the album reaches its climax and synthesis. It deals with the theme of death "like a fly in coffee." The album is thus a launch into the future, beyond the future, beyond that 2020 that Cesare celebrated with a super collection rich in new and rare tracks! Welcome back Cesare, the best hands down in the mediocrity of Sanremo. Rating 3.5/5 stars.
