The latest CD by Celia Cruz is a "regalo del alma", as she herself tells us.
It's a gift from the soul that the Cuban singer, exiled in New Jersey because of her opposition to Castro's regime, gives to all her fans who have accompanied her throughout her 60-year career.
Celia, who became extremely famous for the song "La vida es un carnaval", has crafted a beautiful CD that allows space for experimentation, which had already started with her previous album: "La negra tiene tumbao", from 2001. In this album, in fact, there are songs that mix the Latin rhythms, so dear to the singer, with other genres like rap and R&B, creating truly exceptional songs such as "Ella tiene fuego", "La niña de la trenza negra", and "Maria la loca".
In other songs, like "Rie y llora", "Me huele a rumba", "Pa' la cola", which are in perfect son and rumba style, Celia continues to sing about her love for Cuba and the fact that son is everything to her, it is her life, her heart.
As a bonus track, there is the song "Yo viviré", a cover of Gloria Gaynor's "I will survive", which somewhat represents the spiritual testament left by the singer, stating that she will always live through her voice and the feet of the dancers who will continue to dance to her music for eternity.
"Regalo del alma" was released posthumously, after the singer's death, caused by a brain tumor, in July of this year. This is the last gift that the great singer wanted to give to her fans and not only... and we can only accept it with joy and be immensely grateful to her.
Adios Celia, tu vivires siempre con tu "Azucar!"
