The Profile

Celeste is a name shared by two distinct, verifiable bands: CELESTE, a French blackened post-hardcore/sludge outfit from Lyon (active since 2005), and Celeste, a ’70s Italian progressive rock group led by Ciro Perrino (debuted with Principe di un giorno and later revived, issuing the English reimagining Prince Of One Day).

The French CELESTE’s early albums include Pessimiste(s) (2007), Nihiliste(s) (2008), Misanthrope(s) (2009), and Morte(s) Nee(s) (2010). The Italian Celeste originated from the Il Sistema/Museo Rosenbach milieu; their cult album Principe di un giorno was revisited as Prince Of One Day with Siobhán Owen on vocals.

Two reviews, two Celestes. One tackles the French CELESTE’s Morte(s)Nee(s): looped post-hardcore/sludge/black metal with screamo, relentless and communal. The other revisits Italy’s ’70s prog cult via Prince Of One Day: a faithful, English-voiced return to Principe di un giorno featuring Siobhán Owen, highlighting the band’s delicate ‘chamber prog’ identity.
