Evidently, Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin, has quite a bit of money to "squander."
Otherwise, I could not understand how many releases from his label, Rephlex, are below the qualitative threshold. Or perhaps he is taking on the role of the tycoon and benefactor… I hope these are not deliberate choices, otherwise I would begin to have serious doubts about his evaluative abilities.
The fact is that at the end of listening to "Volume One," an abundant hour of sounds created by Ceephax (that is, Andy Jenkinson, brother of Tom Jenkinson, aka Squarepusher), there is really nothing left…! Just a disjointed digital/analog mix, where it shifts from drum'n'bass to click'n'cut, from gabba to IDM, from rough techno to electro, but never once does a single track convey anything meaningful or have complete form.
And then, to be honest, the tracks are really very ugly.
