THE REVIEW

I return to writing on DeBaser after a break that surely pleased many anti-metalheads, and of course, I'm back to talking about solid-state heavy metal. Today's dish is intense because the stereo kicks off with "Inflikted" by Cavalera Conspiracy, ready to scream all its fury in your filthy little rooms until your brain explodes! Indeed, the album is a little gem of thrash-death, angry as a hyena and fast like someone running away from a dog trying to bite their behind...

As everyone knows, the Cavalera brothers are the makers of the Sepultura machine, the great Brazilian band that made the most neurotic thrashers pulse and mosh in the late '80s. Albums like "Schizophrenia" and "Beneath the Remains" are must-haves in any collection of the genre, but unfortunately, in the mid-'90s, a quarrel between the two brothers led Max (the singer) out of the group. Now, ten years later, Igor and Max have reconciled. They met in the studio and gave life to a new creation. The guitars scream devastatingly at tight rhythms, the drums are hit with disgraceful violence, almost with a deadly urge to smash them; the screaming vocals and overwhelming rhythms make the album immediately enticing, though obviously recommended only for those with a taste fit for such bombardments!

If you live in an apartment building, tell those upstairs to piss off and turn up the volume!

If you live alone, but your mom comes to bother you, give her ten euros and send her shopping: she might suffer a hard blow.

If you have a nuisance that you can't stand and want to get rid of, invite them to your room and press play: their entire species will be extinguished by the roars of Cavalera.

If you loved Sepultura, thrash in general, and extreme metal as a whole, prepare for a seismic shock you won't easily forget. Go!

The title track starts, with a fast-paced and powerful rhythm. A vibrant snare drum opens "Sanctuary", equally disarming! "Splendid" is "Terrorize", rhythmic and cadenced in its fierce, violent progression. Good tracks are "Black Ark" and "Ultra Violent", while the arrival of "Hex" presages something colossal. Everything flows at an uncontrollable speed, the fury gallops and almost seems to destroy all the things that hurt us, that disgust us. The slowed-down ending gives darkness to the piece, then comes the turn of "The Doom of All Fires". It overwhelms and devastates you, grabs and transports you with a chorus that's both catchy and wicked, wicked as the worst metalhead couldn’t even dream! "Bloodbrawl" seemed like an "honest" piece to me, bridging one boldly excellent song and another: I'm talking about the violent outburst of "Nevertrust", an escalation of violence and psychedelic solos. Even the last two tracks, "Hearts of Darkness" and "Must Kill" have a massive sound and an engaging rhythm.

In short, the album is highly recommended. Now, the usual pain in the neck will come along to say that, to me, every metal album is a masterpiece, but we don’t care, we laugh together and might even offer them a drink... but in the meantime, you metalheads, go listen to this stuff!

The two have simply pretended the last 17 years never happened, playing thrash/death in pure Sepultura style.

Inflikted is a work far above average. A transitional work, in short, a first stone laid on what is hoped to be a long path for the Cavalera Conspiracy.

If you are looking for experimentation and assorted novelties, eject the disc immediately!

Inflikted is yet another masterpiece by Max Cavalera and the chance to hear him playing again with the legendary brother Igor.
