The Cavalera brothers return with their second album "Blunt Force Trauma" after the decent debut "Infliktd".

Sorry to say it, but the album is decidedly terrible. First of all, Max Cavalera has lost his voice; it has become hoarse, low, without power, drowned out by the instruments. Moreover, in various tracks, he tends to sing in Screaming instead of his usual growl.

Instrumentally, the album is a poor imitation of the superb "Reign In Blood" by Slayer. All the tracks are short, around two to three minutes, based on the most basic riffs of thrash metal. Unfortunately, the Cavalera/Rizzo duo is nowhere near as fast as the Hanneman/King duo, and the solos are few and far from memorable. Even Igor Cavalera is not at his best, completely abandoning crossover and Brazilian tribal rhythms to try to imitate Lombardo and his fast thrash rhythms. Without success.

In conclusion, we find a thrash metal album with a voice that imitates Black metal. As much as one might say, it was Andreas Kisser who was the best composer of Sepultura, and considering Max's current voice, he's right not to want a Reunion.
