Great initiative by SLUMBERLAND, who in 2008 released "It's Time!", a collection of singles that Cause Co-Motion! recorded for various labels from 2005 to 2008.
The group, from New York, plays a raw Garage Pop that owes much to English indie pop. I think of TELEVISION PERSONALITIES, COMET GAIN, the LOFT. LA'S. Similar to CRYSTAL STILTS. Of JESUS MARY CHAIN from PSYCHO CANDY, smiling in the sun without the wall of feedback.
14 tracks, no more than 2 minutes each, deliberately recorded in Lo-Fi, amaze with their perfect balance between melody, greatly owed to the never clichéd vocal lines, and instrumental grittiness never over the top.
Brief flashes, grainy photographs, that intoxicate. Not a note too many.
"Say What You Feel" at 1.30 minutes is perfect. A capacity for synthesis that can't help but bring a smile.
Not sketches, but little pop gems with their expressive urgency as their strength.
In short, an album I recommend to all lovers of the most rustic and genuine indie pop, which sets aside any intellectual pretensions in favor of an adolescent liveliness.
