In the musical field, the city of Glasgow has always been a guarantee, and the band led by the charismatic Chris McCrory is confirmation of that.
Formed in 2014, this quartet - consisting, in addition to the aforementioned McCrory (vocals and guitar), of Andrew MacPherson (guitar), Jamie Dubber (bass), and Ryan Clark (drums) - has just released its debut album, after a handful of convincing singles (including one titled "Rita Ora"!) and a tour with the Libertines.
The album, co-produced by the group's frontman and Margo Broom, seems to embrace the lesson of fellow Glaswegians, Franz Ferdinand, mixing their typical 2000s indie sound with a pinch of Pavement and Supergrass, yet managing to sound remarkably fresh. It condenses, in just 36 minutes, enjoyable songs with a frenetic rhythm and slower tracks like the beautiful ballads "The Shallows" and "Stars and Stripes."
An album that is not exactly experimental but is among the most fun records of this 2017 that is about to end.
Key track: "Propaganda."
