Hailed by critics as one of the greatest musical masterpieces of the 20th century, Tapestry is something so refined and delightful that it feels like touching the sky with a finger.
With twenty-two million copies sold, it is also one of the best-selling albums of all time. Before this album, Carole King was duetting with her ex-husband Goffin, and together they inspired, among others, none other than the Beatles. It was James Taylor who encouraged her to compose the music herself, and this was her second solo album, following a negligible "Writer".
This masterpiece mixes pieces of pure Rock'n'Roll, like "I Feel the Earth Move" and "It's Too Late", with pieces of folk song like "Beautiful" and "So Far Away". It also features a cover of the famous song "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin, interpreted in an absolutely original way by Carole, who managed to give a more Pop touch to the piece. But what really thrilled fans and critics was the song "You've Got a Friend", which won the Grammy for Best Song of 1971. Carole King's warm and sincere voice, accompanied by a piano played with great precision, created a new model for singer-songwriters in the '70s.
With this masterpiece, Carole King reinvented herself as a musical artist and opened the doors to a glorious career.
