Carlos Santana (born July 20, 1947) is a Mexican-born American guitarist and bandleader, founder of Santana, known for blending Latin rhythms with rock, blues and jazz fusion.

Publicly known for leading the band Santana, landmark 1970s albums and collaborations (including work with John McLaughlin and Alice Coltrane), a long-running interest in spirituality (Sri Chinmoy is referenced in contemporary accounts), and for guest-filled later albums featuring artists such as Steven Tyler, Big Boi, Sean Paul and will.i.am (as noted in DeBaser reviews).

DeBaser reviews present a mixed picture: praised for landmark collaborations and live virtuosity, criticized for later commercial, guest-heavy albums. Highlights include strong takes on 1970s fusion work and an acclaimed Verona concert. Recent mainstream duet albums divide opinion.
