THE REVIEW

Anyone who considers themselves a fan of Death Metal will undoubtedly know Carcass, great exponents of the genre who made their way with many works of undeniable quality, including "Symphonies Of Sickness". This album, released way back in 1989, hit like a real sledgehammer, breaking away from the usual patterns and offering a new style compared to their origins.

I'm not going to spend too much time here finding the right words to express the true essence of the album, as I only need two: Pure necrophilia. Call it what you will, utter malice, rage expressed through lyrics that seem like real articles on all the pathologies existing in the world or obituaries, it won't change anything. The most important difference from the first album is the abandonment of musical extremism, making more room for experimentation (if we want to call it that, considering it would certainly not be the right term even out of respect for other bands), giving life to songs with very original riffs, reminding you that we are talking about sixteen years ago. Nevertheless, we find ourselves with a very violent CD thanks to evil guitars, a downright absurd drumming, and a very elastic voice (as far as it is accurate to speak of an elastic voice when it comes to growl). The whole is additionally seasoned, as you can understand from the band name, the CD title, and its visionary disgusting cover, with lyrics predominantly focused on social issues, paying particular attention to the plight of people afflicted by the scourge of war. Apart from this, tracks like the opener "Reek Of Putrefaction," "Exhume To Consume", and "Empathological Necroticism", cannot go unnoticed, thanks to the violence and malice with which they are played.

I would probably recommend "Symphonies Of Sickness" exclusively to extreme Death enthusiasts and to all those who want to use it to torture one of the many fashionistas with spiked hair and clothes so tight they would suffocate any human being (we have discovered their special power) who come to bother us metalheads, calling us crude and dirty... At least this way, they won't hassle you for a while due to the insomnia caused by the CD... Good album, ruined, just to change things up, only by the sometimes even comical lyrics, it all depends on the points of view...
