Regarding music to bash from 2020.

Not without regret, I am once again compelled to speak ill of Carcass and their four-track EP, which is meant to be a sort of appetizer for their new album, postponed to 2021 for obvious reasons, by the English band.

Translating the title of the work, I can already reach a clear and negative conclusion: despicable, contemptible, unworthy.

An anonymous cover that does not "push" on the band's sick side. Just take a look at the purulent covers of the first three albums to notice the huge difference.

Production and distribution entrusted to the German Nuclear Blast which, for me, is now synonymous with blandness, overly clean sounds, watered down. And when it comes to Carcass, for those who don't know among the inventors of Grindcore-Death Metal in the late eighties, my anger reaches levels of stomach ulcer. Ok, the Teutonic label guarantees a sure and better distribution of the work in question worldwide, but I find all this a real scandal, especially as regards the music of a total inconsistency.

Jeff Walker and Bill Steer are over fifty, and honestly, it is not reasonable to expect a return to the bloody slaughterhouse sounds, the sadistic characteristic of their depraved youth. But not even songs that are so banal and predictable. The comparison with Napalm Death, who also released a new work in 2020, is ruthless and admits no replies. The latter emerge victorious, surpassing the "rivals" with an album of blind and proud auditory intransigence.

I cannot say the same for Despicable: absolute boredom in its listening. There is no spark, no space for any chaotic, furious, and auditory assault moment. A task certainly executed with better technique than our distant past, but the sense of disappointment accompanies all the short twenty minutes of the EP's duration. Unfortunately, I am an old fifty-year-old still addicted to extreme sounds, and I believe that Carcass no longer suits my taste and my (smashed) auditory system.

Not even the Hard-Heavy solos of the much-appreciated Bill manage to give me a minimum of perverse satisfaction.

I believe it is useless, after such an unappealable bashing, to go into the specifics of the individual tracks; grant me this unusual position for once.

Thumbs down without a doubt; stay well away from these "Carcasses"...

Ad Maiora.
