ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!! TOP HAT - POETICHERIE... an original, fresh, genuine, poetic album.
First work by this band from Velletri, rich in provincial charm that vaguely reminds of some songs by Paolo Conte or the melancholic (dis)enchantment of Vinicio Capossela. But, besides a heartfelt tribute to Fred Buscaglione, we find a band that does not lack creativity, with very clear and especially strong ideas.
It ranges from '30s music to waltzes, from tango to jazz, all done expressively, with much poetry, dedication echoing, in the lyrics, the greats of Italian singer-songwriters like De Gregori or De André. A refined and gentle album, it is seasoned all with a light, evanescent sauce and finds its highlight in "Mò m'ariposo", with its musical and night air, with its swing and charleston. "Ultimo Valzer", on the other hand, vaguely recalls "Zampanò" by Capossela and those Balkan atmospheres that Goran Bregovic has so often remembered in his works.
I Cappello a cilindro are the most interesting Italian novelty of recent times, they are young (I read somewhere they are on average 26 years old) and above all already quite mature in this first work of theirs. We met them on the First of May (winner of the "Primo Maggio tutto l'anno" contest), at Piazza San Giovanni, and since then they have set out, starting a strong and intense promotion with a live activity throughout Italy. A magical group, driven by an irresistible passion for music, who know how to have fun and entertain, who know how to unite street music with the refinement of smoky jazz.
"Poeticherie" is a reflection of the moon that accidentally fell among so much throwaway commercial music, it's Modugno, Capossela, De André, Conte, De Gregori, Rino Gaetano all assembled in the soul of this band from the Roman province, in the lyrics of Colandrea, leader, singer and, naturally, author. The lyrics are not too sophisticated but not banal, "they are just poetries on a top hat that is tired of dust like the dark memory of its tailcoat", as announced on the back cover of the CD.
