Who in their life has never felt that sooner or later one needs to break away from the past? I think it has happened to everyone, and probably to Capcom as well. I say this because the fourth installment of the world's most famous horror saga has completely abandoned the schemes that made it famous. The same mechanics were characteristic of the series' fifth installment, but I decided to review Resident Evil 4 instead of the next game because I believe that this chapter marked the leap forward (or backward) towards the future that no one would have expected.

I state that the game is superb and very rewarding as it never gets boring and the longevity is remarkable, but it has only one major flaw, which is the title. I say this because it has nothing to do with "Resident Evil", the game full of puzzles and with the exciting plot that die-hard fans of the series were used to. This is an action game where you shoot, shoot, and shoot, and let's say you almost never have to think, just shoot. This fourth chapter hasn't taken a step forward but a total turn, as it has completely changed, and there is absolutely nothing left of the atmosphere of the earlier games.

This is not intended to be a critique of the game itself, but of the producers who, instead of making slight changes to the game structure, have changed it in every component. Resident Evil 4 has above average graphics, very effective playability, and a really high longevity (considering it already takes many hours to finish the main story just once). Moreover, it is possible to play the adventure also with the turn's female character (Ada, a character already present in the second chapter of the saga, like Leon after all) and there is an additional mode in which she can be used.

Then you can unlock many modes and additional goodies that make the product a worthy purchase for any self-respecting gaming enthusiast. Flawless in every component, it is certainly a game that deserves the highest score (it couldn't be otherwise), but the name "Resident Evil" is a very tight fit, extremely tight. Despite this flaw I attribute to it, it's impossible to give it less than a 5/5. I recommend purchasing the product to anyone who wants to approach the survival-horror genre for the first time (even though there are other things to say about this component).

Instead, to the die-hard fans of the series, who after 5 years from its release will already have it in their collection, I want to express my regret for a series that after 3 exceptional installments for the genre has lost itself and adapted to what the future offers us. I want my brain-teasing puzzles and my moments of true tension that Capcom hasn't given me for some years. I will start purchasing "Resident Evil" titles again when there is a true return to the past; for now, I will continue to enjoy Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3, parts I will never stop playing and loving.

Greetings to all.

Ps: this is my first review, I hope you like it. :)
