Julian "Cannonball" Adderley (1928–1975) was an American alto saxophonist prominent in hard bop and soul-jazz. He recorded classic sessions (including Somethin' Else) and led the Cannonball Adderley Quintet; he also collaborated with Miles Davis and featured players such as Nat Adderley and Joe Zawinul.

Reviews and public records note: he was an alto saxophonist; collaborated with Miles Davis on Somethin' Else; his brother Nat Adderley played cornet in his groups; Joe Zawinul was a key pianist/arranger in later ensembles; Mercy Mercy Mercy! was presented as live though recorded in studio settings; Money In The Pocket sessions were assembled and released years after recording (producer Michael Cuscuna is mentioned in the reviews).

DeBaser reviews present Cannonball Adderley as an affable, swinging alto-sax leader whose records range from hard-bop classics to bossa nova experiments. Reviewers praise his tone, interplay with Miles Davis and his feel for audience-friendly groove. Several live and studio albums are recommended as entry points.

For:Listeners of classic jazz, fans of hard bop, soul-jazz and bossa nova

The first thing that catches the eye on the cover is the name of Miles Davis, who is not featured as a leader but as a simple member of the band.

Good: for those who are not familiar with the vast work of Cannonball Adderley, one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, this album is a very easy place to start.

Start with "Fun" and "Games." Is there anything else to say?

I would like, in my small way, for this album to be re-evaluated.
