After missing Brujeria 4 nights before because of that damn disgusting piece of ****, I manage to return to Rome in time to see those who, along with Morbid Angel and Suffocation, for me, are not only the inventors of the genre but also the inspirers of the thousands of bands circulating today. It's Cannibal Corpse.

Over the years in Rome, many Brutal and Death bands have performed, but they were missing. With almost 20 years of activity and thousands of concerts worldwide, they return to Italy after 5 years and to Rome after more than 10. The chosen venue for the massacre is the Circolo Degli Artisti and after preparing all day, the moment to leave finally arrives. I arrive early and take the opportunity to look at some CDs and buy another t-shirt and shorts of the legendary Cannibal, just like almost everyone present.

Supporting the Roman descent of the American "cannibals" are the Danish Urkraft and the Dutch Disavowed. I still haven't figured out if the local Cold Void played; if so, I missed them. Around 9:30 PM, Urkraft takes the stage, a band with 2 albums under their belt, creators of a melodic death mixed with death metal sounds, although not very evident. The Scandinavians' performance revolves around the band's best pieces, among which the title track "The Inhuman Aberration" from their latest album stands out. Sorry, but I don't remember the other songs. Anyway, a good concert for the Danes, satisfying the crowd and now leaving space for the already more famous Disavowed. Rating: 7+. The Dutch quintet takes the stage among great cheers, to my surprise, from the audience; chants like "Di-Sa-Vo-Wed, Di-Sa-Vo-Wed..." were unexpected but pleasing, especially to the band members. The concert begins, and their very violent and highly technical Brutal Death definitely warms the crowd, also egged on by the very amusing singer, who delivered a growl that was nothing short of ultra-guttural. The proposed songs revolve around their 2001 album "Perceptive Deception" and frankly, I don't remember if songs from their upcoming album "Stagnated Existence" were played. Their concert was truly fantastic, with the drummer (Romain Goulon, remember this name, he will go far) keeping inhuman times (it was really frightening!!!!) and the singer, I believe, became the idol of everyone present since he practically spent the second half of the concert in the crowd, moshing with us and being carried by the crowd, of course while singing, delivering his fierce growl. Fantastic!!!! Without a doubt, approved. Rating: 8+.

And now... CANNIBAL CORPSE!!!! This is how the Disavowed singer announces it at the end of their performance. The venue slowly fills up, and the heat is stifling. Shortly after 11 PM, Cannibal Corpse materializes on stage, and the massacre can begin. "Unleashing The Bloodthirsty" is the first song proposed, and the mosh pit explodes infernally (I was in the fourth row and there wasn't a minute I wasn't moshing); it continues with "Murder Worship", the first of 3 taken from the latest "Kill", "Decency Defied" in which everyone present sang loudly and then the inevitable "I Cum Blood" that drove everyone present mad. The show continues, and the songs presented are drawn from almost all the band's albums. "Pit Of Zombies", "Dormant Bodies Bursting", "Vomit The Soul", "The Wretched Spawn", "Covered With Sores", "Disposal Of The Body"" satisfy the crowd more than ever, and the musicians' performances are excellent. George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher is as powerful as ever, Paul Mazurkiewicz behind the drums sets the rhythms with perfect precision, Alex Webster plays his bass at alien speed, Pat O'Brien delivers an excellent performance, and the re-enlisted Rob Barrett also fares well, although Jack Owen's absence, who has since moved to Deicide, is probably felt. However, besides the already mentioned "Murder Worship" from the new album, "Make Them Suffer", the first single that literally sends the crowd into a frenzy and "Five Nails Through The Neck" are also proposed. And then, of course, it's the classics' turn. After the inevitable "I Will Kill You", "Born In A Basket" and "Fucked With A Knife", the show concludes with an exceptional duet: "Devoured By Vermin" simply unique and the immortal classic of Brutal Death Metal, "Hammer Smashed Face" causing the mosh pit to reach unimaginable levels. Duet? Oops!!!!, Tris: "I sayed that was the last song... I LIE!!!!!!!!!... Stripped, Raped And Fuckin' Strangled". The most insane mayhem unleashes!!!! Dedicated to all the women present, "Stripped, Raped & Strangled", the last piece of the evening sung by the whole venue at the top of their lungs. The concert ends as it began, not only amid applause but also with chants like "Can-Ni-Bal, Ca-Ni-Bal..." or even "Giorgione, Giorgine..." dedicated to Corpsegrinder. Almost 2 hours of devastating massacre, but it satisfied everyone. Rating: 9.5.

The only problems perhaps were the stifling heat, which forced many people in the middle of the venue to leave early, and then the rumors I heard about fights outside the venue because the tickets were sold out. In short, a stunning concert, with a large crowd turnout (consider that Circolo Degli Artisti is also a small venue!!!!) that even granted a significant sold-out (so hopefully Cannibal will return, maybe again in Rome) and in Rome, for an extreme metal concert, this hasn't happened for about 15 years, since the famous Carcass concert in the same venue. We can only go home, satisfied and aware of the great show we witnessed.

STAY BRUTAL!!!! Bye.
