A year and a half to make a name for themselves in the drum'n'bass scene, 5 minutes to become my personal obsession: these are the credentials of Camo & Krooked, an Austrian duo dedicated to producing jaw-dropping liquidfunk (!).
"Above & Beyond", their debut album released this year on the Mainframe label, is the meeting point between the delicate piano lines and the ethereal vocals of liquid and the pumped basses and driving beats: an album not meant to be listened to through headphones after a joint but to be blasted at impractical volumes in live sets, and to make everything clear there are the three opening tracks "You Cry"/"Walk On Air"/"Tonight", three pieces that scream "DANCE WITH EVERYTHING YOU'VE GOT".
For those wanting something less mindless, there are also calm pieces with relaxing atmospheres ("Let's Go", "See Through You", "Silence") and a spectacular demonstration of talent and technique like "Terra", surely the gem of the album, but the dancefloor inclination dominates, with tracks destined to ignite crowds in the years to come like "Just Hold On", "Lost Heaven" and "Only Me".
As you may have guessed, it's not an album for everyone, but a work that will surely sound like a masterpiece to interested ears.
P.S. Those who, like me, discover a love for them should not miss their only Italian date of the European tour, in Rome on September 10th.
