The Calla are another ripe fruit from the New York scene.
They moved there years ago from Texas, and their sound couldn't help but be influenced by it, but that's exactly what they wanted.

Many references (which would be reductive to mention), but independent compositional schemes. The Calla are not a copy of anyone.

Televise is a hybrid album, it winks at true rock, with unforgettable bass and guitar riffs, and the other at the universe of post rock, with long durations, unfinished phrases, and a sophistication above average.
Aurelio Valle sings softly, almost not to disturb, but his voice is also part of the group's artistic design.

The taste for alternating between full and empty, for dark atmospheres, for a subtle psychedelic touch is sublime.

After the decent Scavengers, this is the consecration for Calla. And now we await the next New Yorkers.

04   Don't Hold Your Breath (04:48)

This day is dead
This day is dead
Catch him by the tongue until He says:
“I've wasted it...?

If I could tell You, I would

All I know is I thought I saw You come back for more

It's like You said
Just like You said
I'll hold my breath for You instead
But don't count on it.

If I could catch You, I would
If I could tell You, I would

All I know is I thought I saw You come back for more

08   Alacran (01:13)

09   Televised (06:22)

10   Surface Scratch (06:13)

A surface scratch is so hard to see
The surface mark You left upon me

Don't forget to come back
Tell her to come back

I've been waiting to tell You
Might know
All this time I was never surprised
I guess

Don't ever look back
Don't ever turn back

When I couldn't sleep
She said to me neither could we

Wasting time
Tracing lines You can't see, to me

Custom designed to a mere perfection
Be the tension that will fill the air
I thought You'd get that
It's typical of me
So
A surface mark is so hard to see
The surface mark You left upon me

Calla embrace and clutch the listener with a scratchy caress, made of aggressive and sweet sounds, where noise contrasts with delicate silences.

A melancholic and sweet, violent album, suspended in nothingness, with a slow and passionate pace, that will take you to the edge of the abyss and urge you to throw yourself into the void.
