"Emptiness" is the sixth album by the gothic metal band Cadaveria.
This work showcases a cohesion of elements from melodic death metal, black metal, and heavy and gothic metal. The result is twelve songs that blend heaviness and atmosphere. The music is well-written. The songs are engaging and dark, characterized by powerful and catchy choruses. They traverse a varied range of styles and moods, thanks to continuous changes in riffs and rhythm. Cadaveria's voice reveals great expertise in transitioning from growl to clean singing. Her performance gives great character and emotional weight to all the tracks on "Emptiness" and particularly to the album's title track. Cadaveria's voice intertwines exceptionally well with the rest of the music, which is well-constructed and written not only to give space to the voice but also to exist independently in its own right.
The 54 minutes of this album fly by, between black metal outbursts, as in "Divination," doom cadences, as in "Shamanic Path," and thrash metal accents, as in "La Casa dell'Anima," the latter sung completely and unexpectedly in Italian.
I highly recommend this album, which I just purchased directly from the band's website, to those who are open-minded and not narrow-minded, and to those who have a taste for good homegrown black-gothic metal.
