A milestone in music in general, created in 1986. An absolute masterpiece, conceived by two geniuses of the six strings, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman. Simply SENSATIONAL!
With this and countless other various adjectives, we can define "Speed Metal Symphony." A work crafted upon the six strings, with fantastic virtuosity!
The superb technique of the two makes the album chock full of melody, speed, imagination, and technique. An incredible technique that, in those years, completely overwhelmed the musical world.
At just 18 years old, Becker made himself known to the entire world with an album that combines metal and fantasy! The guitars reign supreme throughout the album, exalting the genius and superb talent of the Friedman/Becker duo. One of the greatest pairs of guitarists ever to exist.
Seventeen years after the album's release, no one has managed to do what they did: share melodic virtuosity with an extreme genre like heavy-speed metal. The two magicians of the six strings showcase all their class in this work, especially in the arrangements, exchanging incredible melodies and solos!
In the melodies, Marty and Jason seem to have a dialogue, engaging in a musical "relay race": on one side, Becker's neoclassical style, on the other, Friedman's classic metal style.
The speed, the rage, the power, and the typical guitar taste of heavy metal are all encapsulated in this musical jewel! Songs like the instrumental "Concerto" and the title-track, or the wonderful "Where My Fortune Lies," are unrepeatable masterpieces!
But it would be a disgrace to only name these pieces. The whole CD is fantastic. True guitar enthusiasts will revel after listening to it (those who haven't done so yet should do it immediately!!).
Ignore if Peter Marino's voice is a real disaster (may God spare us from it...). O'Shea and Anur, respectively on bass and drums, manage to keep up with the acrobatic guitarists quite well, adding that extra touch of power.
The album must be listened to EXCLUSIVELY for the fantastic guitar executions, which should not allow any other sound a chance! Two men, two musicians, two geniuses. Becker, who, after being struck by Lou Gehrig's disease, continues to write music from a wheelchair, and Friedman, who has given us so many emotions with Megadeth and continues to do so solo. Extremely unmissable.
