It wouldn't be hard to imagine what kind of person Pòrz is, who in this solo project calls himself Count Buzzum.
He is from Bologna, involved in various black, ambient, and doom projects. The album in question is a 33-minute "LP." The title is quite indicative: it's dark ambient, although the influences are varied. Pòrz himself claims to be influenced by Varg Vikernes, Ulver, and Neptune Towers (Fenriz's solo project). It is certain that the atmospheres vary from pretentious to ridiculous at times, all aided by the choice of titles that are surely very close to a derogatory inspiration... The name of the label already helps to understand what I mean: Il Male Productions...
Personally, I'm not crazy about the genre and often prefer other sounds to ambient ones, or in any case, a more defined, pronounced, and penetrating instrumental backdrop. This album is as brief to evaluate as it is long to listen to. I'm not even sure how I managed to listen to it all the way through. Nonetheless, I certainly don't deny that someone might enjoy it, after all, it isn't "played" pessimistically, and for a few seconds, there might be a part of you that will manage to appreciate it.
The start features the melancholy of a piano disturbed by hyper-amplified noises, "Piano(forte) Svanisco." Obviously, this is not the most imaginative person on the face of the earth... Still, it's a piece simpler than the subsequent ones in terms of listening and assimilation. Following this, we have almost 12 minutes of "La Tensione Superficiale Dell'Acqua Parte I" and "La Tensione Superficiale Dell'Acqua Parte II," which indeed differ quite a bit (relatively). The sensation is akin to something that first falls, then traverses, and then submerges underwater, all viewed with the slowness of the Earth's revolutionary motion around the Sun. The amusing title of the fourth track is "Entra Nel Mio Mondo E Ammazzati." The extremely alienating repetitiveness really helps the listener follow the advice, but maybe that was the intention of the composer... Then compressed and decompressed wind noises slowly immerse us in a horror-filled keyboard atmosphere, which is also strongly ridiculous. It's the fifth track, "In Attesa Che Il Troll Mi Divori."
56 seconds of cover of the first track make up "La Ciclicità Del Vinile," which focuses more on the clamor of a needle on a vinyl record. The grotesque is decidedly reached in the last track, starting from the title "La Norvegia E' Un Bel Posto." Undoubtedly, I would never deny that it really is. And in parentheses, Bonus Track, as if to make us say: what a stroke of luck! One more! Without this track "Sto Svanendo Ma Nessuno Se Ne Accorge" would probably have been an EP... At least it is not completely unlistenable, and indeed it is the richest in percussion, folkloric passages, and an electric bass that almost breaks the absurdly festive atmosphere.
The judgment is yours. I still don't understand whether it's a parody or if the intention was serious when this album was made.
