When we all sleep in the rice fields… what soundtrack will we use if not this one? We abandon this world dirty with blood and oil. And the gates open (dunkelheit), and we begin our circle towards the distant forests, and these tormented and melancholic notes accompany us on our long road to reach our (nonexistent) peace.
Our pain hammers us until we reach the forest where we find the fruit of our nihilism and our puritan hypocrisy (jesus tod), the ground beneath us is getting cold, and the flowers near us wither before this dead creature.
Who was he and what was he? If not the one we have killed over the years… our savior/punisher/enslaver, his creatures die before us… and we witness his requiem, his second (without return) requiem, desperately trying to make up for his death, without realizing that our work is complete. Reports on TV, on the radio, and in books, which criticized Nazis and Satanists, hid the true guilt of all this, the hypocrisy of the puritans, is repaid with this tribute given to us from the heavens. So, we lie on the ground and watch the sky darken and seek love in those creatures, who try in vain to touch you but you see them pass by suffering (erblicket die tochter des firmaments), their hands that can’t touch you are a stab on our body, our body. And we walk towards pain as impotent penitents we are called to the lazaret, ready and headed for the tragedy of abandonment ….
And after all of our pain and our way towards our serenity, we wonder what the future will be like, the winters, the springs, the autumns, and the summers. What will they be like… (gebrechlichkeit 1), what will it be like not to feel the wind against your skin and the warmth on your forehead and without feeling the kiss of the daughters of the firmament. We are regretful and embittered because of this second gift from heaven ….
At the end of it all, we find ourselves in a forest whose trunks are red (sign of our scattered blood) and leaves black (the oil, black as evil… the evil we have done). And we wander in this strange forest (rundgang um die transzendentale säule der singularität), yet another gain of our (now deceased) dogma. Our slow steps make us feel the discomfort we have caused others and encountering these creatures makes us feel the sweat on the forehead we have never sweat….
At the end of all this, we realize that we will never have our peace, never… (Gebrechlichkeit 2), we endure our future; if we will have one ….
The Mass is Ended, Go Into the Forests and Try to Discover What Our Future Winters and Summers Will Be Like.
Tracklist and Lyrics
04 Decrepitude I (07:53)
Tears from the eyes so cold, tears from the eyes, in the grass so green.
As I lie here, the burden is being lifted once and for all, once and for all.
Beware of the light, it may take you away, to where no evil dwells.
It will take you away, for all eternity.
Night is so beautiful (we need her as much as we need Day).

This is the CD that represents the true self of Varg Vikernes.
A strange black metal, never heard before and not even after, marking the complete musical maturation of an artist.

Burzum's voice in 'Filosofem' is the pure representation of despair, far from the fierce barking of 'Det Som...,' filtered, unhealthy, and merely heartbreaking.
Those who know they have this capability must dare to listen to 'Filosofem': soon they will be captivated by the irresistible sick charm that only an album like this can evoke.

The songs are deadly, pure black 100 per cent.
Burzum’s voice is that of a zombie; theoretically, his voice isn’t human, it is the voice of a living dead.

An album less evil and 'black' than others, more focused on themes of despair, depression, and the end.
Ultimately, an album that can convey all that pain and despair that no one would ever want to feel, but once awakened by listening to such notes, no one will find the courage and strength to give them up.

"Filosofem, where black metal becomes a kind of passport to explore new worlds, where the music drags the listener into complete darkness."
"Simply pure black metal, just as it should be, and it seems like a perfect anthem to sing to Cradle Of Filth."
