Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959) was an American singer-songwriter and leader of Buddy Holly and The Crickets, a pioneering figure in 1950s rock and roll known for melodic songwriting and vocal harmonies.

Buddy Holly led the Crickets, recorded influential rock and roll and pop songs in the 1950s, frequently played a Fender Stratocaster, and died in a 1959 plane crash that also killed Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. His work influenced British groups of the 1960s such as the Beatles and the Hollies.
