THE REVIEW

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas with a unique proposal, no matter what you believe in or not.

Buckethead is certainly a very interesting and enigmatic character: a virtuoso guitarist known for his image and for his habit of producing numerous albums, often experimenting in various genres.

Yet another addition with the word "Slunk," easily searchable in every album of our pleasant Buckethead.

This is his most original and experimental release ever, probably classifiable only with the word "xenochrony." This genre, or better said, technique involves extracting riffs, beats, and chinehahipunemetta from a certain track and inserting them into a completely different one, ensuring an unexpected but pleasant effect. The first to use this technique was the legendary Frank Zappa, who we are sure utilized it in "Joe's Garage," in 1979.

The first experiments of the masked guitarist, however, can be found in the previous album "Forensic Follies" (also released in 2009, just a few months earlier); in this album the "turning point" happens: yes, riffs & beats are recycled from songs from his vast repertoire, but the programmed drum patterns are completely original.

The result is an authentic blend of sharp and robotic riffs married with frenetic beats, all strictly instrumental. A musical collage deformed in various ways.

I strongly recommend listening to the first and eponymous track "Needle in a Slunk Stack" to get the right idea of what to expect along this fanciful journey.

Happy SLUNK holidays, friends.
