It is not easy to find this album on store shelves, the debut work of Bryan Adams, and in its nature of being elusive, it may seem like a collector's item, but upon listening to it, one realizes it's just an album, the first step in a long discography.
The early '80s saw the birth of the Canadian rocker's career, who dabbled in tracks full of sounds typical of those years, without delving into the harder rock that he would explore in subsequent albums.
An immature album, as one can also infer from Adams' young age; in the album photos, he looks like a minor!
The hits are few, counting "Remember", the only song from this album included in the 2007 Anthology, and "Hidin' From Love", rhythmic and danceable: this is the first track of the record, and for those listening to it for the first time after hearing other more significant albums, Adams' voice might not sound like his own, but the subsequent songs will quickly reveal where the deeper and more rock-infused voice of Bryan in his prime came from.
The lyrics of the songs are always focused on the same subject, a hallmark but also a characteristic of Bryan's songs.
Noteworthy is "Give Me Your Love", the first ballad of the album, and the shortest track, in which Adams at one point launches into a falsetto worthy of the Bee Gees, but of which he would probably be embarrassed today, if he heard it. "Win Some Lose Some", "Wastin time", and "State of Mind" are pleasant tracks for those not unfamiliar with '80s music, whereas "Try to See It My Way" is less so.
Overall a good debut album, and certainly fitting for the period in which it was released, but it is not a milestone in Bryan Adams' career.
