THE REVIEW

Third full-length album for the New York band; and a third atomic explosion.

They have left the historic label "Earache" and settled with "Relapse"; their sound of Grindcore, Death Metal, Hardcore, Noise remains unchanged. With an added robust production that highlights all the elements of their massacre.

Abominable cover; shocking back cover: the twin towers of the Big Apple framed in the crosshairs of a warplane ready to fire at them. It's September 1997; still four years away from the tragic events we all know.

The 10 (ten) seconds of the track "Callous" are enough to define the traits of a work that shatters eardrums: Kevin's damaging screams, Dan's piercing bass, Brent's shredded guitar, Rich's inhuman drumming. A Hardcore strike played with a frenzy that instills living (or deadly) anxiety.

Half of the twenty-two tracks on the album don't even reach two minutes: they don't need much time to inflict pain in listening. Because listening to such works is truly something painful; but it has a liberating effect on me, as I adore these bloody sounds.

In some passages, they slow the pace, entering ravenous Hard-Sludge territories; thus served are the over seven minutes of the imposing and suffocating "Blue World". They conclude everything with the twenty-two minutes of "Prey" (which is the twenty-second track of the album): the song's title is shouted hundreds of times at four-second intervals over the same endlessly repeated musical base: they do it to create further damage, further discomfort for those who dare to approach Brutal Truth.

My preferred album of theirs, but I'm not so sure about that.

“Still not loud enough, still not fast enough”...DEMENTIA...
