THE REVIEW

Supergroup... how many times have we heard this word in the music field regarding the meeting of famous musicians united in usually temporary projects, but often with little creative depth.

Well, never as in the case of the Brothers of the Southland does the term supergroup find a real correspondence with the quality of the musicians involved and the music offered.

This fantastic project was born in 2007 from the union of authentic sacred monsters of Southern Rock, including a truly amazing list of names starting with Bo Bice, one of the winners of the famous American Idol and simply amazing as a vocalist, Jimmy Hall, creator of the project and a great voice and harmonica, as well as the author of many pieces of this work, Henry Paul, legendary voice and guitar of the Outlaws, Dan Toler, long-time guitarist of the Allman Brothers Band, Steve Grisham, guitarist of the Outlaws and Charlie Daniels Band, Steve Gorman, drummer of the Black Crowes, Jay Boy Adams, a sort of globetrotter of the American country/blues world, and a long series of other excellent names from the Southern scene, including the great George McCorckle, who unfortunately died during the project's course.

A simply stunning album, 12 pieces that perfectly represent Southern Rock regarding sound, spirit, and attitude with a musical and compositional quality at really high levels with great guitars and voices, extraordinary musicians and a unique atmosphere.

Tracks like Love Don't Care, which greatly recalls the atmospheres of the great Marshall Tucker Band, Rock and Roll Survivor, Dixie Highway, the title track Brothers of the Southland which is a heartfelt and moving homage to all Southern friends and companions of the past and present are simply wonderful, just to name a few, but above all, in my opinion, two versions stand out (calling them covers is definitely out of place) simply thrilling of Can't You See by MTB and Dreams by ABB, interpreted and proposed in a truly wonderful way.

It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful records not only released in 2009 but of the entire Southern Rock scene in general, a record that every enthusiast of this musical world must not miss at all.
