I was eager to review my all-time favorite album, so here I am doing it!
Blackout is an innovative album, perhaps the most innovative of the last decade, with experimental tracks, quite "strange" ones, and I must admit that the first time I listened to it, I felt sick thinking about how Britney might have ruined her career with this trashy album! But it's not so, in fact, listening to it again I discovered new emotions that I had never felt before, tracks that drag you and make you reflect on your insignificant life and on telling off everyone who criticizes you and doesn't appreciate you for who you are.
The masterpiece is also the only one for which Britney is the Executive Producer. I am inclined to call it a "dark" album from how the title and fitting cover suggest everything: a new, rebellious Britney who wants revenge against the crowd that hates her and the paparazzi who assault her every day.
But let's move on to the track analysis:
1. "Gimme More": There are not enough words to describe this song, it makes you want to dance, and while you listen to it you picture Britney from the music video starting to dance with the pole, plus the song is completed by the epic opening line "It's Britney, bitch." It was released as the album's first single. Rating: 10/10
2. "Piece Of Me": In this case, an enticing Britney sings this rebellious song, quite a drag; after two minutes of listening, you feel like having a hit of coke to recover. It doesn't highlight Britney's voice, which has great potential, perhaps it's even too commercial as a song. Rating: 6.5/10
3. "Radar": It's a fun song with an innovative sound, later became an inspiration for the producers of "Revolver" by the elder queen Madonna. An electro-dance track; additionally, Blender magazine claims that many pop stars would kill to have it in their repertoire. To conclude, it's beautiful, but Spears' record label made a mistake by re-releasing it on her subsequent album "Circus." Rating: 9/10
4. "Break The Ice": Another jewel is this electronic song (not at the levels of "Radar") which received very positive reviews thanks to Britney's spectacular voice in this song. Rating: 8.5/10
5. "Heaven On Earth": Definitely heaven on earth, heavenly like few others, not one of the best on the album but quite fun. It doesn't drive me crazy; sometimes it bores me and I always skip it, the only one on the album I don't like but it's not as horrible as it seems, maybe it's just my tastes that are horrible! Rating: 6/10
6: "Get Naked (I Got A Plan)": Initially, it might seem like a banal song, but by listening to it again it became one of my favorites, very "dark," it sums up the concept of the album. Rating: 7.5/10
7: "Freakshow": Very beautiful, I've liked it from the beginning; it has a nice rhythm, also quite electronic with Spears' voice modified as much as possible. Rating: 8/10
8: "Toy Soldier": I won't dwell much on this song because it seems banal, nice rhythm even if repetitive, always the same, doesn't offer anything new. Rating: 6.5/10
9: "Hot As Ice": There are only three tracks to which I gave the highest scores, "Gimme More," "Oh Oh Baby," and this splendid song. Fantastic, spectacular, her voice is beautiful, here you can hear the quintessence of pop, the chills you get while listening are true emotions. Completing it are the not less important "chirps" of little birds trying to further enhance the song, but if it's already perfect, what's the need?... Rating: 10/10
10: "Oh Oh Baby": Touch me and I come alive, I can feel you on my lips... Here we are at the third track with a full score, here too her voice conveys emotions that are hard to explain and takes you on a journey of well-being for your ears that beg to listen to this song again! It sounds a bit like a song from Eastern Europe. Rating: 10/10
11: "Perfect Lover": Another track that follows the line of "dark" songs but compared to the others, this one stays in your head and you hum it all day, one listen was enough for me to learn it by heart. Too commercial but innovative. Rating: 7.5/10
12: "Why Should I Be Sad": A very nice ballad, here too her voice is beautiful, it struck me because it is very relaxing. Rating: 8.5/10
BONUS TRACK
13: "Outta This World": Poor copy of the previous one. Rating: 6/10
14: "Get Back": Poor copy of "Toy Soldier" or maybe vice versa, depending on what style you prefer. Rating: 7/10
15: "Everybody": The mythical "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics reworked by Britney. Rating: 8.5/10
Britney’s little songs are not that different from others, technically there is nothing to appreciate...
"Gimme More," a deadly bore that was already enough for me not to listen to the subsequent tracks.
