"'Distance' draws the mark of the falling. 'Distance' is the space between aimless strain and rebirth. Only scars show the sign of change on your skin. 'Distance' is an image of us". This is how the Vicenza-based band Bright End chose to describe "Distance," which I personally consider one of the best punk/hardcore chapters made in Italy released so far in 2017. An abrasive album consisting of 7 wild bullets, where the black mood of the band frequently surfaces, visibly generating discomfort. An album packed with intense emotions and that unhealthy unease typical of most Deathwish bands. As mentioned in another online review about them, this is the kind of band that could intrigue anyone who loves Bannon's productions, either because of their frontal impact or simply due to that apocalyptic sound that Bright End has effortlessly put together. A work that takes us straight to the beginning of the New Millennium, where bands like Curl Up And Die and Planes Mistaken For Stars (recently returned with a great record, by the way) taught the new generations what it meant to be aggressive and utterly captivating at the same time. Well done!
