I don't know if you're familiar with it, but he's the prototype of the ex-mod adolescent of the sixties pushing his existence towards the '70s: sideburns, disheveled hair, face of a good boy... utterly drugged. Auge, also known as Brian Auger.
The quintessential Streetnoiser, thanks to that demon that moved his fingers over the ivory keys of the Organ of organs, the Hammond. Oh, he sure knew where to plant his fingertips over that sea of levers and buttons. Acidic, unstoppable, biting, twisted, violent, sharp, massive, destructive, and extremely inconvenient little fingers.
Herbie Hancock said of him: "Brian Auger is one of the best Hammond B-3 artists I ever heard in my life. His technique is awesome and the amount of energy he generates is unparalleled and relentless. He is a tremendous talent with a wonderfully warm and compassionate personality, a combination that is hard to beat. He deserves all the accolades". Herbie Hancock was right.

It's mathematical, after ten seconds of listening, you're already tapping your foot in time; after twenty seconds, your hands are drumming on your thighs; after twenty-five seconds, your head is swaying to the rhythm; after another ten, your hips are swaying. And when you get here, it takes nothing for the neighbor to see you through the window in the grips of seemingly unjustified contortions and spasms. But there's nothing you can do, Auge is unstoppable and tremendously contagious. And if to accompany the Hammond there's the -absolutely stunning- voice of Julie Driscoll (stunning) and the rhythm is entrusted to Auger's old mates, aka "The Trinity" (Clive Thacker on drums and Dave Ambrose on bass), then you're probably listening to "Open", and you're doing a great job.
Tell the nosy neighbor to buzz off and continue with your spasms, to the rhythm of someone who made it clear what "groove" truly means.

After listening to "Open", if you feel satisfied, buy an LP titled "Streetnoise" (also by Auger), and brace yourself for an epileptic crisis.
