The US hardcore scene first, and the Australian one later, continue to fuel a musical genre that never ceases to amaze. And the Italian scene doesn't seem to want to stop surprising either, increasingly full of noteworthy names skillful in gaining attention even abroad.

The Perugian band Brave, although newly formed (not even a year old), seem to have a lot of hunger and desire to emerge, to the point of immediately locking themselves in the studio (and what a studio, the Roman Hell Smell) and bringing to light a groundbreaking EP called “Count Of Casualty”. What is it about? Five tracks easily assimilable by those who are accustomed to encountering this type of music, in some ways modern (in structure) and in others ready to pay homage to the glorious past (see choruses and tight rhythms). Nothing new on the horizon then? Certainly, but I challenge anyone to find something new in the hardcore key in 2013.

What needs to be highlighted is the product itself, and surely this EP has nothing out of place: a modern sound structure rich in variations, vocals that are overall up to the task, and choruses that will do their job live. At times commercially perfect (after all, The Ghost Inside are an example from which everyone more or less draws inspiration these days), Brave also show an unexpected dark side that makes me especially think of an Australian band, Carpathian, who have built their image in a scene where mild tones and introspective themes hardly find a place on their dark mood.

An overall judgment on this work? Definitely good, although I am well aware that an EP is not enough to decree the qualities of a band. We await the debut album with confidence!
