LA RECENSIONE

Everything is destined to end. Everything has a beginning and an end. Brand New was born almost by chance. They were carefree guys, eager to make music, then life hit them straight in the face and they had to confront it. Amidst screams and suffering, they moved forward, weaker with each struggle, increasingly disillusioned, but they kept going, up until today. Probably the best emo band of the twenty-first century has written the word end on their story. But what an end it is! Science Fiction is perhaps the most hard-fought album Brand New has ever written, the darkest. A suffering dictated also and especially by the maturity that Jesse and company have reached. The anger, the shouted one, the sad one, which once made their fortune now gives way to an atmosphere almost pervaded by resignation.
Jesse still writes about himself, in an even more personal and rawer way. His emotional disorders, his depression, all the negativity he feels and that the world around him makes him perceive are in this album. Sometimes melancholically sweet, sometimes funereal, the album goes on and does nothing but sound like a farewell. A farewell to something you have loved unconditionally, but know you must let go of. And in the end, only a void remains, to be filled with images from the past.

A devastating masterpiece without even a filler and more generally one of their best albums ever.

‘Batter Up’, in its ethereal and rarefied simplicity, hits like a granite boulder on the open heart.
