This record is from 1966, but it rivals many contemporary albums from England and the United States.
Boudewijn de Groot is a Flemish singer-songwriter, famous (?) for being the author of "Avond" and "Welterusten, mijnheer de president" (translated into many languages worldwide!). It's a shame for countries like Italy because it shows how some nations were light years ahead of us. The album I want to talk about is one of the very few from that era whose arrangements can rival those of George Martin! And the melodic ideas greatly surpass those of the surf and Merseybeat artists (and the results are never puerile or ridiculous). The music is a kind of beat with soft psychedelic touches, but the seriousness is that of great engaged singer-songwriters. I discovered this album with my friend Paolo in a record store in Brussels (the best I've ever seen!), and it was love at first sight: here is a continental European album that surpasses in quality all the "reactionary" figures of British and American music, and the more revolutionary ones are certainly not light years away!
If you're a fan of '60s music, you must get it, trust me! Maybe you won't find it a masterpiece like I do, but bet you won't regret listening to it?
