Born of Osiris stand out in a genre more hated than loved, the death metal with metalcore influences, namely deathcore. But those who hated the genre as a confusing hybrid will reconsider because "The Discovery" sounds anything but bad.

With influences that also touch on progressive, Bos create something unique and original that steps away from the trends of their label mates. The album turns out to be highly melodic despite the continuous exchange of screams/growls, thanks especially to the excellent work of the guitars and instruments in general. Even those who don’t know how to play music will appreciate the guitar arrangements, keyboard arpeggios, and engaging synth rhythms. The solos in "Recreate" or "Dissimulation" are some of the most outstanding examples that the first guitarist offers us.

There isn’t a single piece that seems similar; each is produced differently and is meticulously crafted, boasting compositional perfection. Electronic organs and flutes alternate and blend differently in each track, managing an evocative ambiance with hypnotic attraction.

And perhaps it's precisely in the sense of connection between one song and another that "The Discovery" seems to falter. The ballads (although very well done) seem forcefully inserted into an otherwise problem-free metal production. The last track "Behold" ends too abruptly, leaving a question mark if the album is approached in a synthetic and comprehensive manner.

But apart from this small flaw, this album with its peculiarities and the great potential of its components knows how to entertain, make you headbang, but also offers a technical experience worthy only of being heard and enjoyed.

So before labeling "The Discovery" as just another generic core nonsense, I challenge you to find me a single other album that sounds remotely similar to this.
