THE REVIEW

Do you think that Children of Bodom declined after Hatebreeder? Do you consider Spiritual Black Dimension one of the best albums by Dimmu Borgir?
Well, if so, then this is an album you should make your own... Why? Simply because talking about black metal is really limiting for this album which certainly has those typical black atmospheres, but is full of contaminations from other genres...
The band's performance is masterful, and the technical skills are, I would dare to say, enviable by many other groups in the scene (just to illustrate, there's a certain Vintersorg on the microphone and a certain Tyr on the 5-string fretless bass!). The music is certainly evocative and at times truly exhilarating, with pieces that are very close to power metal while still maintaining a certain aura of underlying darkness...

In this field, certainly one of the best releases in recent years alongside Vintersorg and a few other groups.

It’s a pleasure to listen to such an album, so meticulous in its details, simply perfect, full of both raging and dreamy parts at the same time.

The ‘clean’ choirs are surprising, reminiscent of legendary albums like ‘Anthems to welkin at dusk’ by Emperor: here, they succeeded in capturing that idea, extending it, and inventing something new on it.
