Hail To Satan!

The Bongripper, hailing from Chicago, have without a doubt crafted one of the best albums of 2010 within the doom/stoner/sludge and related genres. Their particularity is that they make completely instrumental music, thus centered on the reiteration of Sabbathian riffs with long, acid, and distorted progressions. These tracks are anything but monotonous or soporific, as they are indeed monolithic but with a decidedly remarkable songwriting and caliber.

For those who do not know them, I can say that these Bongrippers are certainly not newcomers to the genre, as this is their fifth album, although their big break came with this record. It's a truly impressive mix where all the best characteristics of the most Ossianic doom metal merge with the muddy sounds and heaviness of the most primitive sludge, soaked in a seventies psychedelic heart-pounding vibe that's really hard to resist. In fact, the enthusiasm and satisfaction experienced while listening to these tracks flow fluidly and unstoppably throughout its duration.

An influence that is noticeable at times throughout the tracks is that of black metal, as in the double bass introduction of the second track titled “Satan”, but the entire album offers a variety of sounds and atmospheres that is truly excellent. The sounds are powerful, the riffs are fat and fleshy like God... it would be better to say, as Satan commands.

Try it yourselves and let me know if this is really a valid album or not. Personally, I would bet on it even at the risk of getting burned, and I say that this “Satan Worshipping Doom” could be (if it isn't already) one of the albums that will be played the most on your stereo and MP3 players in the coming months.

I assure you!
