With this album, Bon Jovi hit rock bottom in their musical career. Certainly not in terms of earnings and success. Year 2000, for Bon Jovi 5 years of silence (for making such an album, they could have waited a bit longer), even though each of them (except Tico Torres) worked on solo projects. Thus, "Crush" is born, an album of 12 tracks, plus two bonus tracks. The style and times of previous works are a thing of the past, they are pushing 40 but seem younger (...).
The album is sunny and very light, nothing too demanding. Precisely for this reason, a certain decline is noticed at the compositional level, both musically and (especially) in the lyrics. Many songs are decidedly useless, even similar to each other. If there had been at least a couple less, the impression would have already been different. Despite this, the album achieves worldwide success, thanks especially to the single "It's my life", energetic and compelling, which tops the charts around the world. Then the singles "Say it isn't so" (already heard stuff) and "Thank you for loving me" (classic Bon Jovi ballad) are released, which still achieve good success, although not comparable to It's my life.
What to save from this album? Little... For example, "It's my life", which is nothing exceptional but stands out quite a bit compared to the others. Then Richie Sambora's endless solo in "Next 100 years", the amusing "Just Older" (horrifying lyrics), and "One wild night", which I personally like a lot. It seems like the only somewhat more serious thing in this album. This song would later be released in the live album of the following year ("One wild night live 1985-2001") in a version much more suited to nightclubs.
A piece of advice? Don't buy this album, obviously. Not even the ones after... Those before? Well, those are another story!
