Always with the Silver Bullet Band by his side, Seger seems to have found the right path to deliver nothing but extraordinary albums. The three platinum records are not enough to explain the immense genius of this “Stranger In Town,” an album perfect in class and taste, but to be honest, perfect from every point of view.
When faced with another gem, the comparison with the previous “Night Moves” or the live “Live Bullet” is inevitable. It must be said that Seger's records all resemble each other a bit; they lack surprises and never stray from the canon set by the artist himself, but it is precisely this choice of track that makes him great... the “circle that revolves around this music is solid and convincing.”
Needless to say, “Stranger In Town” is a brilliant album, full of timeless ballads destined for eternal or almost eternal glory. It's difficult, if not downright impossible, to cite which songs stand out over others. Among them, I choose “Still The Same,” “Old Time Rock & Roll,” “Till It Shines” and “The Famous Final Scene”, but I assure you that the choice is quite challenging and obviously subjective. A special mention goes to “Ain't Got No Money,” where his roar touches neither the strings of artistic rock nor emotion, but brutally bangs on the doors of America's seedy bars. Listen to believe.
Among all Seger's studio albums, it is the most flawless.
