Can we talk about one of the best Italian albums released in 2019, even without the big views and the big likes?

Absolutely yes, at least as far as I'm concerned and relative to my listening experiences.

First of all, discussing Italian music here is already limiting, this Wanderlust (Libellula Music, 2019) actually has very little of the local, as it is a concentration of internationality, stylistic variety and modernity that simply does not exist in the Belpaese.

Just to frame it, here you'll find that primordial britpop fringe of Stone Roses with some synthetic psychedelia (Tame Impala?), but with clear beatlesque roots; even if the first comparison that strikes my ear is with the Grizzly Bear, listen to the overwhelming “Instant Lover” to understand.

Four guys from Trento, on the second chapter of their discography, after the first full-length “Rouge Squadron” (self-production, 2012) release this work, the sum of two separate but interconnected EPs. A fifth element in the shadows, but no less important, producer Riccardo Damian, acts as a glue to define a compact sound and highlight the precious arrangements.

It's a journey across Europe for the four from Trentino, who live scattered between Paris, Berlin, and London (the track “Feeling” was recorded at Abbey Road Studios).

And indeed, the theme of travel connects the songs one by one—real travel, to physically reunite, and metaphorical travel, which connects the various souls of the band. Deeply analyzing the condition of being distant but strongly united by something greater, like music.

It is the exploration of a sonorous youth that looks to the future with hope, determination, and a lot of talent.
